Looking for free laptop from the government? We’ve had a few people ask us lately how they can get a FREE laptop from the government, and if there are any programs available that give away free laptops.

There are programs in other countries to get a free government laptop. We are not aware of any programs in the US to get a free laptop from the government at this point in time.

This year in London the launch of the “Home Access” scheme was announced at the Learning and Technology World Forum 2010.

Until then, get a job and buy your own laptop!

Why will my IBM ThinkPad R32 laptop not see the CDROM/DVD drive?

Over the years I’ve seen this 50 – 75 times. A ThinkPad R32 that will not see the CD drive. On any other laptop I’d tell you the CDROM or DVD drive has failed, but the R32 gets a unique problem with the motherboard that causes it to stop recognizing CD drives.

You may find it interesting to know if you pt a floppy drive into the ultrabay the machine will recognize it.

The easiest solution is to simply hook up an external USB DVD drive when needed. You can even get a CDROM enclosure for your old CD/DVD drive from NewEgg for under $20.

ARM processors are more energy-efficient than traditional x86 processors that are typically found in desktop and laptop computers. They are not as fast but are quick enough for smooth video playback, rich web browsing and other apps.

Smartbooks are currently designed more for entertainment purposes than for productivity purposes and typically are targeted to work with online applications and may be also sold subsidized through mobile network operators, like mobile phones, along with a wireless data plan. We’ll see more and more smartbook like devices coming out throughout 2010.

Snapdragon is the name of the architecture of a family of chipsets with an ARM-based 32 bit CPU.

What is Snapdragon?

Snapdragon is the name of the architecture of a family of chipsets with an ARM-based 32 bit CPU. The architecture was developed by Qualcomm (which calls Snapdragon a “platform”) for use in smartphones and mobile computing devices. The Snapdragon platform is designed for real time ubiquitous computing with low power consumption for day-long battery life.

So what?

Does this mean it basically performs like 2002 computer? Yes and no. It is a slower processor which uses very little power. It isn’t designed for gaming, it is designed for always-on use. Most Snapdragon powered devices will run for 10+hrs on a battery charge and smoothly play back 1080p video, support GPS, 3G, etc. Snapdragon CPUs run cool and do not require a heat sink or fan.

You can learn more about Snapdragon here:
